NBA fans were saddened by the news about TNT reporter Craig Sager’s acute leukemia. In typical Sager fashion, he handled the news with humor.
And while he’s undergoing treatment, Sager will have to miss this year’s playoffs, but it doesn’t mean that the NBA is not thinking about him.
During Game 1 of the Dallas-San Antonio series, TNT tapped a replacement for Sager and it was none other than his son, Craig Sager, Jr. And while Sager, Jr. did not wear the loud outfits that his father is known for, he did interview Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in between the 3rd and 4th quarters.
The Sager, Sr.-Popovich interviews have become Must See TV for Pop’s short terse answers and Sager’s attempts to make him laugh. In this particular spot, Popovich was his usual self at first and told Sager, Jr. “You did a great job, but I’d rather have your dad standing here,” but then broke the fourth wall and spoke directly into the camera to Sager, Sr., “We want your fanny back on the court and I’ll promise I’ll be nice. Get back here. Good luck,” and walked back to his huddle.

Who knew Popovich had that in him? He’s a softie at heart.
