We’ve posted several times about how coverage of the NHL, Premier League, racing and the Sochi Olympics drove some truly impressive numbers on NBCSN. It turns out that those big ratings resulted in the best six-month start to a year in the network’s history.
During the first six months of 2014, NBCSN grew its total day viewership by a massive 86% compared to 2013. This growth resulted in NBCSN being the fastest growing sports network in terms of total day viewership and in the key demographics over the last 12 months.
As we’ve mentioned before, live events draw ratings. NBCSN rode the thrilling Stanley Cup Playoffs, a spectacular Sochi Olympics, the Premier League and a devoted and dedicated racing base to produce record numbers for the network. With hockey and the Premier League in the books, it’ll be interesting to see how the second half of the year looks for NBCSN. They’ll have big numbers in the Fall, but it’s going to be a pretty quiet summer. Time will tell if they can keep this momentum building and achieve some real audience gains when they don’t have such a strong live sports arsenal to show.
