Streaming options are becoming more and more important for sports networks, and Fox Sports is expanding the accessibility of their streaming product. The network announced Tuesday that Fox Sports Go will now be available through XBox One and Chromecast devices:

FOX Sports GO, the live streaming platform that showcases all of FOX Sports’ live events and studio programming is now available on Chromecast and Xbox One. They are the latest connected devices to carry the TV Everywhere service, a list which also includes Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV and Roku.
Chromecast and Xbox One customers who receive FOX, FS1, FS2, FOX Sports Regional Networks, FOX College Sports, FOX Deportes and FOX Soccer Plus as part of their pay-TV subscriptions are now able to access FOX Sports’ full slate of programming through FOX Sports GO, including more than 3,000 live events, as well as hundreds of hours of studio shows and original content.
Live programming includes the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, UFC, NASCAR, Big 12 and Pac-12 football, BIG EAST basketball, FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Champions League. Users can also stream signature FS1 shows such as SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED, THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD, SPEAK FOR YOURSELF, FOX SPORTS LIVE WITH JAY AND DAN, GARBAGE TIME WITH KATIE NOLAN, UFC TONIGHT and THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER.
“We are excited to provide sports fans with more ways to watch our full lineup of live event and studio programming,” said Clark Pierce, FOX Sports Senior Vice President, TV Everywhere. “Adding Chromecast and Xbox One to the list of connected devices that offer FOX Sports GO is another major step as we look to achieve full distribution for the platform.”
This is not an over-the-top streaming service like the one ESPN has in the works, but rather a move to expand the streaming options for those who already subscribe to Fox Sports channels through TV packages. It is a valuable move, though; it makes Fox Sports Go more convenient and available for those who do already subscribe, and that can be important, especially when it comes to programming conflicts that bump things to digital. It follows on the heels of their addition of Fox Sports Go to Roku devices in late August, and there may be more options to come. Also, if you’re looking to watch digital-only content such as Outkick The Show, this is a way to do that.
Moreover, it’s interesting that Fox is heavily promoting the ability to watch “signature FS1 shows” through Fox Sports Go. That could be smart, especially considering that many of those shows aren’t racking up good traditional TV numbers. Promoting them through Fox Sports Go might both make the streaming product more valuable and encourage people to tune in through traditional TV as well. We’ll see where they go from here, but making Fox Sports Go more widely available and promoting what’s available through it seems like a logical step for the network.
