The FS1 MLB studio show has been an enigma. It’s part-comedy show, part-analysis and part-something that is beyond description. But when you have three players who know hitting, Alex Rodriguez, Pete Rose and Frank Thomas, you wonder why FS1 hasn’t been doing more to showcase their expertise.
While last night’s NLCS Game 5 was on, A-Rod, Rose and the Big Hurt were all together, off the main set discussing hitting and shooting the breeze. It was Rose mostly holding court talking about the toughest pitches he faced, his approach during a slump and an interesting anecdote on noted spitballer Gaylord Perry.
Rose who has been used more for comedy relief on FS1 was serious during this discussion and he showed potential for being a very good analyst, something that Fox has yet to tap during his time on the MLB Postseason. Rodriguez acted as the facilitator while Thomas provided reaction to Rose’s hitting tips.
It was fanastic and luckily for us, Fox kept the cameras rolling and recorded it for all to see:
We need more segments like this and less dependence on the laughter. FS1 would get some really good buzz showing some more demonstrations like this.
