Embattled Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has become known for some of his confrontational interactions with reporters, such as his “Enjoy the wine. Enjoy the mince pies.” press conference exit before Christmas, and he continued that trend Tuesday after a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United. United star Wayne Rooney has also been a focus of media criticism recently, but he was essential for the Red Devils Tuesday, scoring from a 9th-minute penalty and from open play in the 79th minute and setting up a 37th-minute goal from Jesse Lingard. While United conceded a 90th-minute equalizer from Newcastle fullback Paul Dummett to only come away from St. James Park with a single point, van Gaal decided to use his post-match press conference to point out those who had criticized Rooney:

“We won’t speak any more about Wayne Rooney. You have criticized him. I don’t, you!” is a pretty good exit, but it’s van Gaal’s parting shot as he leaves and walks back in to go “You too, fat man!” that really makes this. van Gaal’s tenure running Manchester United hasn’t always been the greatest success on the field, but it’s making for some amazing press conferences.
