The most dominant program in women’s college basketball is getting the docuseries treatment.
Apple TV+ announced Wednesday that it’s producing a three-part documentary chronicling the UConn Huskies’ historic 2024-25 championship season. The untitled series is currently in production and will be helmed by filmmaker Matthew Hamachek, known for his work on The Dynasty: New England Patriots and Tiger.
It’s being produced by Skydance Sports, with executive production from Learfield Studios and Brillstein Creative Partners.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Apple TV+ and Skydance Sports on this project that gives a behind-the-scenes look at our National Championship run that has never been seen before,” Geno Auriemma said in a statement. “This series offers fans an exclusive view into 40 seasons of UConn women’s basketball, and I’m really excited for audiences to be able to see all the hard work that has built this program.”
UConn women’s basketball wasn’t exactly a powerhouse before 1985. They’d managed just one winning season. Then Geno Auriemma arrived. Forty years later, it’s the gold standard in college hoops. Not only because of Auriemma, but also due to the elite players he coached. Rebecca Lobo. Swin Cash. Sue Bird. Diana Taurasi. Maya Moore. Tina Charles. Breanna Stewart. And now Paige Bueckers, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Together, they’ve turned UConn into the winningest program in Division I history — men’s or women’s.
The docuseries will chart Auriemma’s 40-year run in Storrs, showcasing the rise of a perennial powerhouse through the eyes of the program’s greatest players and the modern-day stars who helped UConn reclaim the crown in 2025. Expect rare archival footage, new interviews with legends of the sport, and exclusive access to the 2024-25 team as it added one more trophy to the case.
Rather than just reliving games, the series will look to tell the full story of the rise, the setbacks, the culture, and the relentlessness it took to build what many now consider the greatest dynasty in the history of women’s sports.
