The so-called Pac-2 of Oregon State and Washington State are reportedly approaching a conclusion to their media rights woes going into the 2024 college football season.
Per John Canzano, the schools are finalizing deals with both Fox and The CW for the 2024 season. The contracts will cover the home games for both teams for a total of 13. The two schools’ road games will air on the broadcast partners of the home teams, as is standard with college football media rights deals.
Last month, Canzano reported the two schools were nearing a deal with The CW.
The CW will handle the bulk of the schools’ home schedules, taking 10 of the 13 games. The other three will be heading to Fox.
One is, unsurprisingly, the Oregon-Oregon State game, formerly known as the Civil War. This year’s game takes place on September 14 in Corvallis.
The Pac-12 Network will reportedly produce the ten games airing on The CW, which doesn’t have its own production team. The CW also has a package of ACC basketball and football games, produced by Raycom. The football package consists of 13 games annually, which means The CW will now air nearly two dozen football games this fall.
Ultimately, it’s a pretty soft landing for both schools. While half of their games will air on The CW, that’s not the death sentence many thought it would be when the Pac-12 as a whole was talking to the network. With the two schools loading up the rest of their schedules with Mountain West teams, those games will air on either CBS or Fox networks.
Overall, the schools will reach more eyeballs with this cobbled-together set of media rights deals than if games aired on the Pac-12 Network.
