While Richard Sherman expressed some doubts about Travis Hunter’s prospects in the NFL as a receiver, the former All-Pro corner has high praise for Colorado’s two-way star following Saturday’s performance against UCF.
The Buffaloes moved to 4-1 on Saturday with a 48-21 road win against the Knights. Hunter had a big game. He caught nine passes for 89 yards with one touchdown. On defense, Hunter made a diving interception and as part of the celebration, struck the Heisman pose.
Sherman agrees.
The former All-Pro cornerback earned some attention for a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast for comments about Hunter. While Sherman praised Hunter’s athleticism and hyped his potential to be a top NFL cornerback, he was less certain about Hunter’s chances as a two-way player in the NFL, saying Hunter was “kind of bland” as a receiver.
But after Saturday’s performance, Sherman had nothing but praise for Hunter. He went on X (formerly Twitter) and endorsed Hunter for the Heisman Trophy.
“If the Heisman is going to the best player in college football they are going to have a tough time not giving it to @TravisHunterJr,” Sherman posted.
Sherman also reposted a message from analyst Bucky Brooks, who called Hunter “one of the best football players I’ve ever watched.”
Prior to Saturday’s game, Hunter took the field for pregame warmups in a shirt that said “Bland.”
Despite that, Hunter acknowledged that he and Sherman talked on the phone about the “bland” comment and acknowledged that “there’s no negative energy” between them.
