Saturday, Alabama A&M announced Thai Floyd as its new play-by-play announcer for the 2025 football season.

According to the university, the move makes Floyd the first woman to hold a full-time announcer role not just for the school but for any HBCU football team.

Floyd, a Florida A&M alum and the daughter of former Florida State and NFL fullback William Floyd, also works as a digital media specialist for Alabama A&M athletics. According to her bio, she has worked as a sideline reporter and play-by-play commentator for more than 60 games on ESPN+ and ESPNU, including several FBS bowl games and the Celebration Bowl. She was the play-by-play announcer for the inaugural Women’s HBCU All-Star game in April. Floyd was also the in-game host for the Florida Classic and served as a sideline reporter for the Black College Hall of Fame Game.

“Honored to push the needle forward for women in sports while representing the Alabama A&M Bulldogs,” Floyd wrote in a post on X. “Black women remain underrepresented in this arena—and I’m proud to be the change I want to see.”

Floyd also shared a special message to her mentor, ESPN commentator Tiffany Greene.

“Would love to do an all-female broadcast with you one day!” she wrote. “For now, I’m excited to see you on press level.”
