UCLA fired Steve Alford on Monday in his sixth season as the school’s head basketball coach, after the Bruins got off to a rough 7-6 start and lost four consecutive games. Murray Bartow is serving as the interim head coach, but UCLA is still looking for the long term answer.
Naturally, this topic came up during Thursday night’s UCLA-Stanford broadcast on ESPN, which featured Dave Pasch on play-by-play and UCLA legend Bill Walton on color commentary.
Pasch asked Walton, “Who do you think can succeed here? What type of characteristics should UCLA look for in the next coach?”
Anybody that has followed Walton and his broadcasting career had to know that he wouldn’t give a traditional answer here, but it was still a rather unexpected answer:
“Barack Obama.”
It would seem just a tad unlikely that the 44th President of the United States is UCLA’s next head basketball coach.
Walton also suggested an ESPN television producer and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr for the UCLA job.
