Chase Herbstreit, the son of college football and NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit, will play college football for the Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan football’s official X (formerly Twitter) page announced Hebstreit’s commitment on Sunday evening.

The elder Herbstreit replied to that post, sharing words of pride and encouragement for his son.
“So proud of you Chase,” Kirk said. “Congratulations on this incredible opportunity. Look forward to watching you continue to grow and develop at Michigan. Keep grinding!!”

Of course, there’s another element to this.
Before becoming one of the sport’s most well-known analysts, Kirk Herbstreit was a college football player himself. He played quarterback at Ohio State, Michigan’s biggest rival. Chase’s grandfather, the late Jim Herbstreit, was also a Buckeye and was a captain on Ohio State’s 1960 team.
And to the surprise of, well, absolutely nobody, Chase’s college selection raised more than few eyebrows.

I’ve been saying for awhile that Michigan would take two QBs in the 2025 class, even if they landed Bryce Underwood.
I’m not sure I would have guessed Chase Herbstreit would be the QB.

The Michigan-Ohio State rivalry has more than enough intrigue, but this certainly wont do anything to make the game less interesting, especially if Chase gets in to play against the Buckeyes.
