Ahead of the highly anticipated launch of its direct-to-consumer product this fall, ESPN is going on a promotional tour through all 50 states, literally.
On Wednesday, the network announced that beginning June 27 it will debut SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days, “a nationwide tour designed to bring SportsCenter and its anchors directly to fans across the country.”
The promotion will feature both live on-site shows “originating from high-profile athletic venues and events to unique hometown locales” in addition to, presumably pre-recorded, “storytelling segments” from a different state each day for 50 consecutive days.
It’s not the first time SportsCenter has embarked on a cross-country journey. 20 years ago, the show did a similar summer tour dubbed SportsCenter Across America, traveling from the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics in Fairbanks, Alaska to a jousting tournament in Port Republic, Maryland, and many sites in between.
“SportsCenter isn’t just a studio show — it’s part of the fabric of sports culture across the country, and we can’t wait for our anchors and other ESPN personalities to show up in people’s backyards as we celebrate the passion for sports that we all share,” ESPN EVP David Roberts said in a release.
ESPN is set to announce “anchor assignments, features locations, and fan engagement opportunities” in the coming weeks.
