Actress Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a new movie focusing on famed boxer and trailblazer Christy Martin.

Deadline Hollywood reported on Wednesday that Sweeney, 26, will step into the ring in a new film led by director David Michod and Black Bear Pictures.

“Sydney Sweeney getting into the ring to portray trailblazing boxer Christy Martin,” Deadline posted on X.

“The currently untitled project will chart the true story of Martin’s rise to become America’s most well-known female boxer in the 1990s – the ‘female Rocky’ in the words of the film’s producers,” Deadline wrote.

Martin later appeared on Sports Illustrated and signed with famous boxing promoter Don King. The article details Martin’s battles between her public life and the demons in her personal life.

In 2010, her husband attacked her and stabbed her. He was later found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Martin survived the attack and continues to contribute to boxing, owning Christy Martin Promotions, which has held events in North Carolina and Florida.

Sweeney obviously has become a sensation on the heels of the popular rom-com Anyone But You. Sweeney also gained significant fame in the HBO show Euphoria.

Deadline writes that the film will be shot this fall.
