A day after Breakfast Ball was canceled, Danny Parkins was still very much part of FS1’s plans.
Parkins, who left Chicago for New York last August, had teamed up with Craig Carton and Mark Schlereth on the short-lived morning show. While Schlereth often played the frontman and Carton brought name recognition, Parkins quietly carved out a presence on a program that never made it past its first year.
Despite the show’s cancellation — and a broader shakeup across Fox Sports programming — Parkins is expected to remain with the network, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
His next role remains unclear. There have been names floated like Tony Reali, Max Kellerman, and Kay Adams as potential additions in some form, but Parkins’ strong ties to both Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright suggest he’ll continue to have a seat at the table.
On Tuesday, Parkins filled in for Wright on First Things First, hosting alongside Kevin Wildes and Chris Broussard. Wright’s absence wasn’t unexpected, as he told listeners of his What’s Wright? With Nick Wright podcast he’d be calling the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event this week.
At least for the next few days, Parkins is holding the keys to a show that earned Awful Announcing’s 2024 “Best Debate Show” award. First Things First has arguably cracked the formula for modern sports debate, and perhaps Parkins could be part of its continued evolution. Or maybe he finds his own.
That’s all speculation for now, as there have been no clear signals about the future of FS1’s programming. AA’s Matt Yoder examined what might come next after yet another shakeup, but so far, the only on-air personality with a confirmed outcome is Joy Taylor, whose contract will not be renewed.
What we do know, though, is that Parkins will return to The Score for his third annual radiothon, scheduled for July 31–Aug. 1, per the Sun-Times.
