While the Minnesota Twins traded a lot of their roster at the trade deadline, All-Star starting pitcher Joe Ryan was kept. Though, thanks to an incorrect report from Fox, Ryan briefly thought otherwise.

On Thursday, the Fox Sports: MLB account on X (formerly Twitter) was one of several to briefly report that Ryan was headed to the Boston Red Sox.

And while the post was quickly deleted, it was up for long enough that Ryan believed he’d been moved at the trade deadline.

“Joe Ryan, who allowed two runs in six innings, thought he was traded after an errant social media post from FOX Sports said he was dealt to the Boston Red Sox. It took several minutes before he learned there was no trade involving him,” wrote Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune after Friday’s game.

More than one-third of Minnesota’s roster was traded at (or in the days leading up to) the trade deadline. The Twins fire sale has been a topic of conversation both in Minnesota and around the rest of baseball. It is a stunning decision given the team just won the AL Central two years ago and had a winning record last season. However, the Twins still ended up dealing away 10 Major League players this week in an extreme trade deadline sell-off that has hardly ever been seen before.

So, while the trade report about him was false, we can hardly blame Joe Ryan for thinking otherwise. He and Byron Buxton are pretty much the last ones left in the Twin Cities.
