FS1 host Nick Wright will soon fulfill a lifelong dream.
The First Things First host announced on Thursday that he would be part of the final table broadcast for the World Series of Poker Main Event next week. Thursday marks Day 5 of the marathon poker tournament, which features a $10,000 buy-in and 9,735 entrants this year. Only 522 players advanced to Day 5 of the Main Event. The final table, featuring the last nine entrants, is scheduled to be played over two days on July 15 and 16.
Appearing on his What’s Wright? with Nick Wright podcast, the FS1 personality and avid poker player explained how much the opportunity means to him.
“This will be one of the five coolest moments of my professional career,” Wright told his listeners. “This is a true dream. This is something that I have been trying to set the table for the better part of 10 years, if I’m being totally honest. And really put real effort into a strategy to make this a possibility over the last five years.”
Wright has become a somewhat familiar face in the poker community in recent years. He’s played in a number of celebrity games and livestreams, even taking on poker legend Phil Hellmuth in a $50,000 heads-up match. Last year, Wright even called the final table of the $250,000 buy-in event the biggest in history. However, the Main Event remains the most prestigious competition in the poker community, akin to calling a World Series or Super Bowl.
