Oscar Meyer Wienermobile Syndication: Shreveport Times/The Times

The time has come, America. No longer must you watch professional drivers race fast cars on the world’s most iconic tracks. Now, thanks to a partnership between Oscar Mayer and Fox Sports, you can watch six Wienermobiles race against each other at the Indianapolis 500 this weekend.

For the uninitiated, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles are hot dog-shaped vehicles that can be caught driving around the great United States promoting one of America’s most recognizable food brands. Variety’s Brian Steinberg first reported the news.

Those wanting to tune into the race live can do so on the Fox Sports app this Friday at 2 p.m. ET. Coverage will also be available across Fox Sports’ social media accounts and highlights will be shown in the lead-up to the actual Indy 500 broadcast on Sunday.

Per Steinberg, six Wienermobiles will each represent a different region of the United States and “be outfitted like hot dogs from various parts of America.” For example, the southeast will get a “Slaw Dog” while a Seattle Dog will represent the Pacific Northwest.

This is the first year Fox Sports and Oscar Mayer will run the race, but the goal is to make it a tradition. Kelsey Rice, Oscar Mayer’s comms director, told Variety that the company would like to make the Wienermobile race “a real annual event, something that really kicks off summer for the brand.”

It’s unclear who exactly the drivers of the Wienermobiles will be. But before long, you have to imagine Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon will be racing hot dogs every summer.
