Skip Bayless expects Tom Brady to be the greatest NFL analyst ever. And he’s leaning on Sunday’s Netflix roast as evidence.
On the latest episode of The Skip Bayless Show podcast, the polarizing FS1 host expressed confusion over the concept of a roast. The idea of taking someone great and ripping them to shreds just didn’t sit well with Bayless, which is ironic considering his years of LeBron James commentary.
But if there was ever going to be a roast that could draw an applause from Bayless, it would be Brady’s. According to Bayless, the roast was brilliant, Brady was brilliant, and those facts should ultimately equate to his new Fox Sports teammate being a brilliant NFL analyst.
“Tom Brady on Sunday night was absolutely brilliant,” Bayless said of the Netflix roast. “He showed you why he is the greatest. It was brilliant. He was brilliant.
“And my biggest takeaway from the night was that Tom Brady will soon become for this network, for Fox Sports, one of the greatest NFL analysts of all time, if not the greatest. Because that’s what he does. That’s who he is. He shocks the world. He proves everybody wrong. He wins. He always, always wins. And did he ever win on Sunday night.
“The biggest winner, by far, of the greatest roast of all time was the brains and the guts behind it, was Tom Brady, who knew exactly what he was doing from start to all-time great finish.”
Everyone is interested to see how Brady lives up to his $375 million contract with Fox. And everyone is looking for insight on how Brady will sound. Brady’s press conferences, podcasts, interviews, attendance, and now his roast performance have all been used as means to anticipate how the former quarterback will sound next to Kevin Burkhardt as the lead analyst for Fox.
The Netflix roast probably shows Brady will be able to brush off any negative headlines about his on-air performance if others aren’t as high on his analysis as Bayless expects to be. But using the roast as evidence that Brady will be the best analyst in NFL history seems like a stretch. Credit Brady for showing off a different side of himself during Sunday’s roast, but he won’t have writers in the booth come Sundays this fall.
