LeBron James, Maverick Carter executive producers for Muhammad Ali two-part HBO documentary ‘What’s My Name’

Along with being the best basketball player in the world, LeBron James is becoming a force in the television industry. LeBron and Maverick Carter serve as executive producers on The Shop, (which recently premiered on HBO), an upcoming Showtime series Shut Up and Dribble, an upcoming NBC pilot based on the life of Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons, an upcoming WNBA-inspired drama on NBC called Hoops (with Elizabeth Banks involved), and an upcoming documentary Student Athlete on HBO.

And we can add another one to that list.

HBO released a teaser trailer on Saturday night for What’s My Name | Muhammad Ali, a two-part documentary coming in 2019. The documentary will feature James and Carter as executive producers, and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) as the director.

Included in HBO’s tweet on the documentary: “The Greatest, like you’ve never seen him before.”

Now, a Muhammad Ali documentary being in the works at HBO — and being produced by SpringHill Entertainment, the production company of James and Carter — first became news in 2016, but things were pretty quiet on that front until Saturday night. Expect more details and a full trailer to emerge on the documentary over the next few months before its 2019 release.
