Ex-ESPN Mets beat writer Adam Rubin joins SNY-affiliated MetsBlog

Back in February, longtime Mets reporter Adam Rubin announced that he would be leaving ESPN.com. And a month later, Rubin revealed that ESPN declined to renew his contract and noted that it was going away from beat coverage. He also revealed that he was joining the New York Institute of Technology as an assistant athletic director for strategic communications or, in simpler terms, a job in public relations.

Well, Rubin will not be leaving the Mets beat altogether. On Tuesday, it was announced that he’ll be joining the SNY-affiliated MetsBlog. Rubin will contribute three to four articles a week for the site.

MetsBlog creator and lead writer Matthew Cerrone said he couldn’t be more thrilled to have Rubin on board:

Thanks to some common friends, I have known Adam since 2004, which is when I created MetsBlog in college and not long after he joined the Daily News. In that time, he has consistently been among the most admired, smart, resourceful, well connected and incredibly perceptive reporters covering the organization. Combined, he and I have nearly 30 years experience writing daily about the Mets and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish working on the same team.

So Rubin will still be associated with the Mets through SNY and MetsBlog, and he will also keep his main gig with the New York Institute of Technology. For those who thought Rubin would be leaving the Mets beat for good, the news of him joining SNY and MetsBlog means that he’ll be writing about the team for the foreseeable future.
