The Seattle Mariners are making some significant changes in their TV broadcasting booth this season.
According to The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude, Aaron Goldsmith takes over as the Mariners’ lead television play-by-play voice. Meanwhile, Angie Mentink will become the first woman in franchise history to be a regular in-game color analyst.
Mentink, who was a star softball player for the Washington Huskies, began her broadcasting career as a UW baseball and softball commentator for Pioneer Sports. She joined Fox Sports Northwest (now Root Sports Northwest), becoming a reporter covering the Mariners and Seattle Seahawks and co-anchoring Mariners All Access. In 2021, she became the first woman to work as a TV color commentator for the Mariners. She also served in the analyst role for several M’s games last season.
Goldsmith is entering his 13th season with the Mariners. In 2023, he was considered for the same job with the St. Louis Cardinals but elected to remain with the Mariners, saying, “[Seattle] has become my home.”
Mariners Hall of Fameer Jay Buhner will also be part of the four-person analyst rotation, which includes Mentink, Dave Valle, and Ryan Rowland-Smith.
Mike Blowers, the Mariners’ lead analyst since 2007, will reportedly not return to broadcasts this season. Longtime play-by-play broadcaster Dave Sims left this offseason to become the lead broadcaster for the New York Yankees, replacing John Sterling.
The Mariners are expected to announce the new lineup next week.
