The 2024 Major League Baseball season is coming to a close but not before Philadelphia Phillies analyst John Kruk gives us one more iconic moment.
During the bottom of the 4th inning of Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Kruk got tired of listening to a kid in the next booth over from where he and announcer Tom McCarthy were calling the game.
“I’m gonna talk to this kid,” he said. “I ain’t got nothing else to do.”
“See if you can scare him, added McCarthy, a request that Kruk honored by yelling “HEY!” towards their neighbors. NBC Sports Philadelphia cameras picked up the interaction, which included the kid immediately whipping his head around to see who just yelled at him.
That’s when McCarthy completely lost it.
After a brief return to the action on the field, cameras showed the kid trying to see what Kruk and McCarthy were doing while the announcer kept laughing.
“You scared him,” said McCarthy. “You scared the poor kid. Look, he’s looking over…”
McCarthy did his best to get back to calling the action but the kid finally got their attention.
“There he is, John,” said McCarthy, as Kruk and the boy waved at one another before the Phillies announcer gave him a thumbs up to signal that their detente was at an end.
“You’re making amends,” added McCarthy.
