Keith Hernandez does not care for oversized funny hats. During Game 2 of Wednesday’s doubleheader between the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles, he made that abundantly clear.

During the fourth inning, SNY cameras picked up a fan wearing a Mets jersey and an oversized orange cowboy hat on his head.

“Oh, look at this guy,” Hernandez remarked.

“It’s funny because it’s bigger than a normal hat,” play-by-play man Gary Cohen deadpanned in his response, referencing the late Norm McDonald’s portrayal of Burt Reynolds — or Turd Ferguson —on Saturday Night Live‘s Celebrity Jeopardy! sketch.

The cameras then showed other fans for a few seconds, while Hernandez and Cohen briefly stayed quiet. Hernandez broke the silence.

“What are those hats called right there?” Hernandez asked.

“They’re called the Norm McDonald hats,” Cohen said.

“I never was a fan of them,” Hernandez said.

“They’re called funny hats,” Cohen noted.

“You wouldn’t catch me dead in one,” Hernandez emphatically replied.

“We can bury you in one if you’d like,” Cohen joked.

“Or they can put me in the — incinerate me with it,” Hernandez matter of factly suggested.

“Well, that’s a happy thought,” Cohen said. “Should I send a forwarding address for the ashes?”

File this conversation away, especially if you could end up drawing Hernandez’s name in a Secret Santa gift exchange in December,
