Baltimore Orioles fans Credit: MASN

When you attend a Major League Baseball game, there’s always the chance that TV cameras will point in your direction for a moment or two.

In the case of one Baltimore Orioles fan, the MASN cameras kept coming back to him for an entire half-inning as he realized he was on TV and tried to make the most of his 15 minutes.

Upon returning from commercial in the bottom of the 8th of Monday’s game between the Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers, MASN zeroed in on a glum-looking couple in the crowd. Announcer Kevin Brown called out the man, who was donning an Orioles jersey, for seeming frustrated about his beloved O’s. After color commentator Ben McDonald introduced Baltimore pitcher Yennier Canó, cameras returned to the sullen couple, who now appeared to be having a difficult conversation.

“I don’t think those two are jiving right now,” said McDonald as the broadcast returned to the game. “There’s something going on there.”

The cameras once again returned to the couple, who appeared to be arguing. At this point, a woman sitting behind the couple, presumably also watching the game on her phone, let them know that they were on TV. That’s when the man kicked into high gear to garner as much attention as possible. The MASN broadcast was happy to keep obliging, much to Brown and McDonald’s delight.

“We gotcha, buddy,” said Brown through the laughter. “You’re America’s Orioles fan. This is why you need the MLB TV app.”

The fan and the broadcast found themselves in a delicate dance. They would show him, and then, thanks to the delay, he would see it several moments later. This led to him reacting, which caused the cameras to come back to him. Eventually, MASN went picture-in-picture with the fan to avoid missing any game action.

Unfortunately, the O’s fan ended up being bad luck, as in between cutaways, the Brewers put some runners on base, eventually taking a 5-4 lead they would never relinquish. So, his 15 minutes of fame may already be over, regardless of how much it delighted Brown, McDonald, and the MASN broadcasting team.
