Wednesday night’s Coldplay concert in Boston brought one of the most viral stories in recent memory when Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was captured on camera holding his affair partner, the company’s human resources chief, Kristin Cabot. And while the incident has been spoofed in the days following the infamous moment, it perhaps hasn’t been done any better than on Friday night when the Philadelphia Phillies’ mascot, Phillie Phanatic, reenacted the scene during Friday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Angels.
In between innings, the Phillies aired a kiss cam on the video board in left field, which started off as your standard run of the mill kiss cam showing happy couples enjoying their time at the ballpark.
However, Phillie Phanatic would ultimately be captured on camera holding another green mascot in the exact pose that Byron and Cabot were positioned in during their infamous kiss cam at Wednesday’s concert. Phillie Phanatic and his “mistress” would then proceed to cover their faces from the camera before the beloved mascot attempted to hide under a seat as Byron did in the real video.
To make matters worse for Byron and Cabot, the Phillies would make light of their mascot’s rendition on social media, with a pretty clever caption related to the real incident to boot in a post on X.
“Local CEO caught CHEATING at Phillies game?!” wrote the Phillies social media team.
Given how much attention the Coldplay incident has received in the past few days, there were many in the sports media space who took notice of his hilarious rendition, crediting the Phillies on X for their creative use of the kiss cam on Friday night.
“So good,” wrote Washington Commanders beat reporter Ben Standig.
“And people say we don’t have a shared culture anymore!” wrote Brent Scher, the chief editor of The Daily Wire.
“Holy shnikeys,” wrote CNN anchor Jake Tapper.
The incredibly unfortunate part of this scandal blowing up and being mocked to this magnitude is that there were real people that were hurt by the actions of Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot. In particular, Andrew Cabot, Kristin Cabot’s husband, and Megan Kerrigan, Andy Byron’s wife, are surely seeing all of these spoofs of their respective partners’ affairs.
Hopefully, they are dealing as well as they possibly can in light of this situation. But clearly, when it comes to Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot, the general public isn’t afraid to publicly put them on blast for the time being.
