Some bad social media posts live on forever in infamy.
MLB insider Jon Heyman unleashed one of those posts in late 2022, when he tweeted, then deleted, a breaking news report that “Arson Judge appears headed to the Giants.”
Of course, there is no Arson Judge, and New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge didn’t head to the San Francisco Giants, either.
Heyman’s gaffe drew plenty of reaction then, but two years later, the “Arson Judge” tweet lives on, surfacing at the most unexpected times. During Friday night’s Yankees vs. Giants game, the YES Network flashed the post on the screen, and announcers Michael Kay and Paul O’Neill poked fun at the post and the momentary chaos it created in the Yanks organization.
“A lot of Yankee fans and Yankee executives got nervous when they saw this Jon Heyman tweet: ‘Arson Judge appears headed to the Giants,'” Kay said. “Their hearts dropped. They were not expecting that.”
The Yankees weren’t done commemorating that post. Two innings later, Judge launched a three-run homer, and the New York Yankees X account tweeted, “Welcome back, Arson.”
Fans loved the “Arson Judge” flashbacks.
And when Judge homered yet again later in the game, everyone got in on the “Arson” bandwagon.
