He’s known as “The Truth,” but many basketball fans will question the accuracy of a statement Paul Pierce made on Thursday.
During Thursday’s edition of Speak on FS1, Pierce, Keyshawn Johnson, and Joy Taylor discussed LeBron James recently saying that the NBA “hasn’t had a scorer as equipped” as Kevin Durant.
Pierce used the discussion as an opportunity to make an eye-opening statement about his own game: “I was probably the best pure scorer ever in the history of the game.”
“I was pretty equipped, when I think about it,” Pierce continued. “I’m just saying, like, I need to be in this conversation.”
Pierce had an outstanding NBA career that featured an NBA Finals MVP for the 2008 champion Boston Celtics, 10 All-Star Game appearances, and 19.7 points per game over 19 seasons, peaking at 26.1 points per game in 2001-02.
But the best pure scorer in basketball history?
Durant, James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Steph Curry, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and George Gervin are among the many basketball players in history who would have something to say about that.
