The Toronto Raptors needed a prayer and they got one.
During Tuesday’s Game 1, second-round matchup against the Miami Heat, the Raptors trailed by three with just over three seconds to play. Raptors guard Corey Joseph inbounded the ball to point guard Kyle Lowry, Lowry bobbled the ball, and then chucked up a half court shot. To everybody in the Air Canada Centre’s surprise, the shot dropped forcing overtime.
That’s an incredible shot. Lowry had been laboring badly throughout the game, as he’d been dealing with elbow issues. He ended up scoring only seven points, shooting a putrid 3-13 from the field and 1-7 from the three, but the one three-point shot was a big one.
Unfortunately for the Raptors, the shot wasn’t enough. While it got them to overtime, Toronto ultimately fell to the Miami Heat 102-96 in OT behind Goran Dragic’s 26 points and a vintage Dwyane Wade performance. Lowry’s rough shooting night paired (aside from the shot) with an inconsistent team performance for the Raptors ultimately cost them Game 1.
While the half court buzzer beater must have felt great for Lowry, I’d bet he’d rather walk away with a victory.
