Former Wake Forest radio analyst Tommy Elrod may have met with Louisville co-offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway the night before the Demon Deacons and Cardinals met back in November, according to CBS Sports, who submitted a FOIA request to Louisville.
A chain of text messages began at 7:19 pm on November 11th and the first text had its contents redacted sans the location of its message. This is the rest of the chain, according to CBS Sports:
-
Elrod at 8:37 p.m.: “On way now.”
-
Galloway at 8:48 p.m.: “OK. Sitting by fire pit.”
-
Elrod at 8:59 p.m.: “Outside?”
CBS Sports also reports that phone records for Galloway shows a 25-minute call with Elrod on November 9, the Wednesday before the Saturday night game. The report says that this is the longest phone call Galloway had with anyone that week, and CBS Sports also independently verified Elrod’s phone number was included.
Louisville AD Tom Jurich told the media on December 14 that Galloway had received inappropriate information from Elrod and infamously said the issue had brought “undue attention” to the Louisville staff.
“Among the communication were a few plays that were sent and then shared with our defensive staff,” Jurich said that day. “None of the special plays were run during the course of the game. Our defense regularly prepares for similar formations every week in their normal game plan.” Two days later, Jurich suspended Galloway for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
CBS also requested records from both Virginia Tech and Army relating to any communication between their football staff and Elrod when Wake met the Hokies in 2014, and when they played Army then and in 2016. Virginia Tech said they had no records relating to the request and Army was still evaluating the records they had. Then Hokie assistant and now Georgia assistant, Shane Beamer, admitted to receiving plays from Elrod in 2014. The ACC fined Louisville and Virginia Tech each $25,000 for receiving the confidential information from Elrod back in December.
Louisville did not make Galloway available for comment on Friday, nor commented on the situation themselves. Elrod also could not be reached for comment by CBS.
