The Kansas City Chiefs might have the quarterback advantage with Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIX, but Brent Musburger believes there’s no bigger advantage than the Taylor Swift advantage.
Musburger didn’t go so far as to push any Taylor Swift conspiracy theory surrounding the Chiefs, but he definitely seems to think Travis Kelce’s love interest might at least be a good luck charm.
The legendary sportscaster joined the latest episode of What the Football with Suzy Shuster and Amy Trask this week. And during the interview, Musburger was asked if there’s a modern-day athlete that he would like an autograph from. Without hesitation, Musburger said Swift with a chuckle.
“She’s one of the reasons why I’m picking the Chiefs to win this week,” Musburger said. “I don’t look at stats and things like that. I look for offbeat stories to pick my winners. And I want to tell your audience that Taylor Swift has attended nine Chiefs games in Kansas City, all in Kansas City this year, and they are 9-0. And if you go back to last year, I believe the winning streak with Taylor Swift in attendance is around 13 or 14…and that’s one of the reasons.”
That’s one of the reasons. Okay, what are the other reasons? Patrick Mahomes? Andy Reid? The Chiefs vaunted defense? Or maybe it’s just a fear of betting against a team that won the last two Super Bowls. Nope. Musburger is betting the Chiefs because of Taylor Swift and Kirk Cousins.
After sharing his Swift theory, Musburger touted the recently uncovered stat that no team has ever won a Super Bowl after losing a regular season game to Cousins. And this season, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to Cousins in Week 2. The curse of Cousins paired with the good luck charm that is Taylor Swift? How could anyone bet against the Chiefs?
