Part of Chris Russo’s charm is his inability to pronounce the names of professional athletes.
Another part of said charm is mixing up names.
Just recently, the ‘Mad Dog’ named Megyn Kelly, the starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
And on Tuesday, he credited New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas for drafting “Wilson and Minshew.” Now, he means Garrett Wilson, New York’s No. 1 wide receiver, but as he tried to plead for Douglas to get some of the heat for Gang Green’s struggles, he attributed him as a player who predated Douglas’ tenure in New York.
If it’s taking you a while to get there, it took Funhouse (@BackAftaThis on X) a bit to get there, too. Somehow, he juxtaposed Sauce Gardner and Gardner Minshew II. The only difference is that, well, how much time do you have?
Mad Dog Russo gives #Jets GM Joe Douglas props for drafting “Wilson and Minshew.” 🤔 It took me a minute to decode this one. Getting inside of Dog’s brain can be dangerous. He meant Sauce Gardner and instead went with Gardner Minshew. They are such similar players. pic.twitter.com/ZZT0OIyAJG

He meant New York’s No. 1 cornerback but instead came away with the now-Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback.
Douglas would’ve been fired way before Robert Saleh had he spent a premium draft pick on Minshew. Still, it’s also hard to argue that the journeyman quarterback would put on worse displays than we’ve seen out of Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, or Trevor Siemian, for that matter.
But, hey, Douglas still has a job as of the writing of this article.
Gardner (and Minshew) now join a long list of names that Russo has botched over the years, including, but not limited to, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella, former POTUS Barack Obama, and perhaps the most egregious, his Mad Dog Radio co-worker Damon Amendolara.
