Erin Andrews interviews Aaron Rodgers on Fox Photo credit: Fox

Erin Andrews isn’t feuding with Aaron Rodgers and she wants everyone to know it, especially the New York Jets quarterback himself.

For the sake of factual accuracy, let’s begin by reiterating Erin Andrews is not mad at Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers is not mad at Erin Andrews.

Also for the sake of factual accuracy, Andrews would have enjoyed seeing Rodgers join Charissa Thompson on the set of Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football postgame show two weeks ago, but it didn’t happen.

Rodgers did an interview with sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung but was unavailable for a less formal conversation alongside Thompson, Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, and Richard Sherman. In the wake of his absence, Andrews expressed disappointment with Rodgers, albeit in jest, on her last podcast episode with Thompson.

“I was looking forward to two of my really good friends yukking it up,” Andrews said two weeks ago, later explaining that she gets sensitive when friends decline her interviews.

Andrews’s disappointment, which was expressed cheekily, made headlines and she happened to be getting her nails done when Thompson texted one of those headlines, which proved to be problematic as she rushed to contact the Jets quarterback.

“I get this text from Charissa, I can’t use my hands and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, look at this stupid headline.’ So I read it, ‘Rude, personal Erin Andrews calls out Aaron Rodgers.’ If you know anything about me and my 7,000 sit-downs with him and what we talk about on our show, he’s actually a really good friend of mine,” Andrews said. “So I get all hot and bothered and worried cause I’m like, ‘Wait what? I don’t want this to get traction.’

“My hands are in this stupid gel thing and I’m like ‘I got to call this guy, I got to call him, I got to call Charissa.’ We end up doing voice notes to each other,” Andrews continued. “Which was awesome by the way because I’m like, ‘Aaron, there’s this stupid headline out there, I’m so sorry.’ And he’s just like, ‘you guys are nuts, who cares.’”

When you consider all the headlines that have circulated about Rodgers in recent years, it’s safe to assume he wasn’t going to worry too much about Andrews questioning why he didn’t do an interview on Thursday Night Football. Still, Andrews wanted to make sure he knew there was no brewing feud between them.

Andrews and Thompson kept referencing US Weekly’s headline which read “Erin Andrews Criticizes Aaron Rodgers for Snubbing Interview With Charissa Thompson.” But let’s also offer enough self-awareness to acknowledge Awful Announcing had the story first with a headline that read, Erin Andrews chides Aaron Rodgers for snubbing Charissa Thompson: ‘It does get personal.’

Did Awful Announcing contribute to Andrews’ need to exchange voice messages with Aaron Rodgers while getting her nails done? Maybe. We did, however, note in the initial post and continue to note that Andrews calling Rodgers out was done in jest. But Andrews calling out Rodgers as a joke doesn’t alter her larger point that someone might take it personally when a friend denies their interview quest. That doesn’t mean an interview snub is going to end a friendship, but it’s fair to at least view it as disappointing or frustrating without that becoming a sticking point in their friendship.
