Josh Allen hasn’t beaten Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. But claiming he “can’t” beat them seems like a stretch.
Allen overcame one hurdle last weekend when he led the Buffalo Bills to a victory over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. But this Sunday, Allen will attempt to something that he hasn’t done. Keyshawn Johnson, however, wants to change the narrative from something Allen hasn’t done, to something he “can’t do.”
“I understand that you’ve beaten them in the regular season. I understand all that,” Johnson told Paul Pierce, Joy Taylor and Michael Irvin on FS1’s Speak. “That’s great. But you’ve yet to do anything come postseason time…Guess what my narrative is? He can’t beat Kansas City! He cannot beat Kansas City!
“All we’re talking about right now is the playoffs. That’s it. I don’t care what you did in the regular season. You can’t beat them in the playoffs. Whatever changes, I don’t know if all of a sudden you get tight. You start sweating in the middle of the night and you don’t get no sleep in the hotel. I don’t know what it is!”
We understand this is TV, where an opinion isn’t worth having unless it’s a bold one. But can’t? Allen can’t beat Mahomes and the Chiefs? Come on now.
Allen scored three touchdowns against Kansas City in a 27-24 Divisional Round loss last year. And he was nearly perfect in 2022, when he threw four touchdowns and had the Bills 13 seconds away from knocking off the Chiefs before ultimately falling 42-36 in overtime.
History is on Johnson’s side. Despite a win over Kansas City this regular season, Allen is 0-3 against the Chiefs in the playoffs. But Johnson might be the only person who walked away from those games believing Allen “can’t” beat Mahomes and Kansas City in the playoffs.
