Keyshawn Johnson had ‘the smarts to know’ Jets would dump Aaron Rodgers

Keyshawn Johnson was right about the New York Jets moving on from Aaron Rodgers, which means he gets to keep his pants on.

After naming seeing his former teammate Aaron Glenn become their next head coach, Johnson was so confident the Jets were set to get rid of Rodgers that he vowed to walk from his home to the FS1 studios in his underpants if they ended up retaining the 40-year-old quarterback next season.

“If he does, then I’m walking from Calabasas at 4 a.m. in the morning, to the studio, with nothing on but boxers,” Johnson told his Speak co-hosts last month. “So I’m saying this with a lot of confidence.”

This week, the Jets officially saved Johnson from having to make the commute to work in his boxers, and announced their plans to move on from Rodgers. But even as there were some rumblings about the Jets considering keeping Rodgers for another season in recent weeks, Johnson was never concerned.

“I know you’ve been playing on it because you really thought I was gonna have to walk,” Johnson told Paul Pierce after it was reported the Jets were moving on from Aaron Rodgers. “What I have is the smarts to know what I’m looking at…If Aaron Rodgers had 12 games like he played the last three or four games, then I would tell you he’ll be back for a year. But he’s given us nothing in two seasons.”

“Now you take that and you put that on top of everything else that Aaron Rodgers does and gets involved in. You know coaches don’t want that.”

Especially rookie head coaches. The Jets probably won’t find a better quarterback than Rodgers next season, but they still might be better off without him. And nobody will be better off than Keyshawn Johnson, who no longer has to worry about walking to work in his underpants.
