Mark Sanchez is reportedly about to follow the same path that Jonathan Vilma did a year ago.
Per the New York Post, Sanchez will be moving from ESPN’s college football studio coverage to Fox’s NFL game coverage in the fall. He’ll be the replacement for Chris Spielman, who left Fox for a front office role with the Detroit Lions late last year, and is expected to work with Kevin Kugler.
Sanchez joined ESPN in the summer of 2019, working the ABC studio show as the replacement for Mack Brown. He worked with Vilma and host Kevin Negandhi in the fall of 2019, and when Vilma left for Fox last year, Booger McFarland worked with Sanchez and Negandhi in the ABC studio for the 2020 season. Funnily enough, when McFarland left for the Monday Night Football booth, he was replaced by Vilma, meaning we’re almost back to square one with the ABC studio coverage going into the fall of 2021.
This marks the latest change for a broadcast team that has been in flux over the last year. Thom Brennaman was dumped by Fox just weeks before the NFL season started, with Kugler replacing him next to Spielman. Then Spielman left the booth before the season ended, and Kugler finished out the year working with Brock Huard.
