The Kansas City metropolitan area straddles the borders of Kansas and Missouri, meaning that there’s both a Kansas City, Kansas and a Kansas City, Missouri. But the latter is both the bigger city (488,943 to 152,938, as of 2017) and the one where the Chiefs play. But after the Chiefs’ 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, U.S. president Donald Trump briefly tweeted congratulations to the Chiefs and “the Great State of Kansas.” That tweet was soon deleted, but is preserved here:

After taking down that tweet, Trump’s account posted a similar tweet this time shouting out “the great state of Missouri.” Which is a bit more accurate as to where they actually play, but probably won’t be loved by the Chiefs’ fans who live on the Kansas side:

Funnily enough, one of the many people calling Trump out over the initial tweet was former U.S. senator Claire McCaskill (a Democratic senator representing Missouri from 2006-2018 who’s now a NBC News/MSNBC analyst):

And someone else actually predicted that he would do this:

So, yeah, that first tweet was a bit of a swing and a miss.
