The Minnesota Vikings came up with one of the craziest endings to a NFL playoff game ever Sunday, scoring the first-ever playoff touchdown with no time on the clock to turn what appeared to be a 24-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints into a 29-24 win. And the Vikings’ radio team of play-by-play broadcaster Paul Allen and color commentator Pete Bercich were as astounded as anyone else:
Here’s an attempted transcription (they’re both yelling at the same time during the middle part):
“Case on the deep drop, steps up in the pocket, he’ll fire to the right side, CAUGHT BY DIGGS, OH MY GOD, STAY IN BOUNDS, OH MY GOD, HE GOT LOOSE, AT THE 30, THE 10, TOUCHDOWN! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHAT A MIRACLE FINISH! IT’S A MINNEAPOLIS MIRACLE! STEFON DIGGS AND THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS HAVE WALKED OFF ON THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!”
That’s awesome, and it’s great to hear the passion. Another strong call came from Kevin Harlan on the Westwood One national radio broadcast:
“He throws a long line drive on the near side, leaping to it, catch made, IT’S GOING TO GO IN FOR THE TOUCHDOWN! GRAB BY DIGGS! He broke a tackle, 61-yard touchdown throw! THE VIKINGS HAVE WON! THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS HAVE WON!”
And here’s how Joe Buck and Troy Aikman called it on Fox:
“The pass is caught! DIGGS! SIDELINE! TOUCHDOWN! UNBELIEVABLE! VIKINGS WIN IT!”
An unbelievable play indeed, and one the various commentators did a nice job with.
