After the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday, Clay Ferraro of Miami ABC affiliate WPLG introduced viewers to Sophia, a 9-year-old Panthers fan he met before the game. Sophia liked what she saw on the ice, and not just because her favorite team won.
While we’re sure Sophia liked the six goals Florida scored, the numerous fights in the third period were what she loved most.
“Sophia, what is your favorite part of Panthers games?” Ferraro asked.
“The fighting,” Sophia replied.
“Now that it has become the big story from this game,” Ferraro said. “What did you think about the fighting, especially in that third period?”
“It was really good,” she said. “And I really liked how they punched each other. A lot.”
To this point, Sophia quickly replied to every one of Ferraro’s questions. His next inquiry, though, asking whether the Panthers won the fights, made her think.
“Uhm,” Sophia said, thinking for a moment. “Yeah, probably.”
Ferraro’s next question to Sophia, “Do you want to be our Local 10 fighting hockey expert?” required no extra thinking.
“Yes,” Sophia said, emphatically nodding her head.
It’s hard to imagine a person more qualified for the job.
