Keith Olbermann and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would seem not to have much in common. Except for relationships with reporter Olivia Nuzzi.
Nuzzi has been in the news following the blockbuster reveal of her relationship with fringe third-party Presidential candidate turned Donald Trump ally, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The longshot Kennedy campaign was marred by an increasingly incomprehensible barrage of bizarre headlines including an infestation of brain worms, dead bears in Central Park, and sexual assault allegations.
After his campaign ended came yet more shocking news. New York Magazine political reporter Olivia Nuzzi was placed on leave following the revelation that she had entered into a personal relationship with Kennedy after writing a 2023 profile of him. For her part, Nuzzi claimed that the relationship never became physical in her statement about the leave. That has been followed by one report indicating RFK Jr. received unwanted nude photos from her and another saying that he bragged about possessing them.
And in a twist to the story that could never be dreamt of by the world’s most creative fiction writers, former SportsCenter anchor and longtime political commentator Keith Olbermann came to her personal defense. But not because of any political differences with Kennedy. Because he was in a relationship with Nuzzi himself.
Olbermann first made the revelation on his X profile, saying that he went public with the details because the New York Post had reached out to do a story, which they published hours after his tweet. Olbermann told the Post that the relationship started when he was 55 years old and she was 21.
Olbermann shared more on his daily Countdown podcast, stating that it happened a while ago and assumed it was general knowledge that the two had dated.
“When the RFK Jr.-Olivia Nuzzi relationship story broke, I thought ‘Oh here we go, eventually and inevitably this story will get around to me because long ago she and I lived together.’ We had dogs and tattoos and rings, and like all relationships, it was very nice at the start. Then things happened and we worked on it and it ended,” Olbermann said.
Olbermann also said the relationship was “surprisingly mundane” and credited her with his love of dogs. While Olbermann said that he could not defend Nuzzi’s journalistic choices, he spoke positively of her personally.
“Whatever else this is, Olivia is responsible for me being born again in dogs. She will always have my support if she needs it… though not the journalistic choices part,” he said.
So there you have it. If it comes out that Nuzzi also had a relationship with Dan Patrick then we can call it quits for the most unbelievable story of 2024.
