With NASCAR continuing to branch out of traditional courses and holding annual races at the LA Coliseum, on Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive, and launching an in-season tournament in 2025, it seems as though the league is entering a new era and attempting to draw in some more casual fans.
A great way to inform and educate those newfound casual fans would have been to get them to watch Fox’s daily NASCAR show, NASCAR Race Hub, which aired new episodes on FS1 and repeats throughout the day and week.
Unfortunately, NASCAR recently announced that the daily racing show would end in June, ending its 13-year run.
Three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin isn’t a fan of this decision. This week on his podcast, Actions Detrimental, Hamlin sounded off on the call to cancel NASCAR Race Hub, leaving a void of NASCAR coverage on television.
“It sure was convenient to be on cable. I don’t care; it’s on a sports network. For me personally, I would always go into a restaurant or something, and it would replay. They have it on FS1 constantly. So it just would replay throughout the week, even when it wasn’t in its designated time slot. I understand that there’s some sports that don’t have a daily show, but I think it was certainly an asset for our sport to have, for sure,” Hamlin noted.
Despite disagreeing with the choice, Hamlin realized that Fox had to make a business decision.
“What I understood, too, was that was a real money loss for FOX. They spent quite a bit of money per year putting that on. It was a net negative. So yeah, everyone’s got a business to run.”
