The legendary Merrill Reese has been a beloved figure in Philadelphia for decades. Reese, the Philadelphia Eagles’ longtime voice, has seen it all. Reese was on the call for the famous Miracle at the Meadowlands in the 1970s… and then called the next Miracles at the Meadowlands three and four decades later. He also called the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory in 2017, which was the franchise’s first and thus far only title.
Now, Reese will receive a prestigious honor. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced that it has awarded the longtime Eagles voice the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.
On Thursday, the Hall of Fame announced they would honor Reese.
Reese has been the Eagles’ radio play-by-play man since 1977. He’s seen the franchise’s biggest peaks and its biggest follies. His voice has been heard on NFL Films, which likely introduced fans outside the Philadelphia area. He’s one of the league’s most recognized radio broadcasters.
Past recipients of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award include Joe Buck, Al Michaels, Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, John Madden, and Dick Enberg, among a host of illustrious broadcasters.
