Ratings News and Notes

  • NASCAR races from Kentucky on July 6 and 8 saw declines. The Xfinity race Alsco 300 on NBCSN, originally scheduled for July 7 but rain delayed it to July 8, attracted 975,000 viewers, down 2 percent from last year (July 8, 2016: 995,000 viewers) and down 11 percent from two years ago (July 10, 2015: 1.094 million). The Monster Cup Series race Quaker State 400 on NBCSN (2.71 million viewers) waa down 15 percent from last year (July 9, 2016: 3.192 million viewers). It dipped to its lowest TV audience in this race’s history.

    The Camping World Truck race Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 on FS1 July 6 (439,000 viewers) was delayed by rain for three hours and began near 11 p.m. eastern. It was down 26 percent from last year (July 7, 2016: 596,000 viewers) and down 6 percent from two years ago when it was known as the UNOH 225 (July 9, 2015: 468,000 viewers).

  • IndyCar Seriea: Iowa Corn 300 on NBCSN July 9 — won by former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Helio Castroneves — exactly matched its viewership from last year’s Iowa race (534,000 viewers) but gained 14 percent in adults 18-49 (120,000 vs. 105,000). It was also down 1 percent from two years ago (July 18, 2015: 541,000 viewers).

  • NBCSN’s live coverage of the first two stages of cycling’s Tour de France in mornings on July 1-7 and July 9 averaged 293,000 viewers, down 1 percent from the year-ago coverage (July 2-8 & 10, 2016: 296,000 viewers).

  • The UFC 213 prelims on FS1 July 8, featuring Aleksei Oleinik’s win over Travis Browne, drew 657,000 viewers. It was the least-watched UFC pay-per-view prelims since UFC 179’s prelims on Oct. 25, 2014 (536,000 viewers).

    On July 7, the live 25th season finale of The Ultimate Fighter on FS1, with the Justin Gaethje-Michael Johnson fight, averaged 724,000 viewers — down 33 percent from the year-ago TUF finale (July 8, 2016: 1.086 million viewers). Preceding the finale, TUF 25 prelims (453,000 viewers) were down 29 percent from last year (July 8, 2016: 642,000 viewers).

  • NHRA drag racing’s first Sunday without a NASCAR lead-in on FS1 still saw an increase from last year. The live Route 66 Nationals on July 9 posted 534,000 viewers, up 7 percent from last year (July 10, 2016: 500,000 viewers). From two years ago, however, it fell 15 percent (July 12, 2015 on ESPN2: 630,000 viewers)

In total viewership for its entire week in Total Day (6 a.m. to 5:59 a.m.), NBCSN is up +91 percent (223,000 vs. 117,000) from one week earlier and down -16 percent (223,000 vs. 265,000) from the same week one year ago (July 4-10, 2016).

In total viewership for its entire week in Total Day (6 a.m. to 5:59 a.m.), FS1 is up +42 percent (150,000 vs. 106,000) from one week earlier and down -13 percent (150,000 vs. 172,000) from the same week one year ago (July 4-10, 2016).
