Ratings News and Notes

  • The finale of TNT’s second annual The Dunk King, which aired on May 23 in late night following Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final game, posted 1.732 million viewers, down 18 percent in viewers from one year ago (May 24, 2016: 2.109 million viewers). Nonetheless, like the previous episodes last week, this year’s “Dunk King” finale showed slightly better retention (24.6% from Boston-Cleveland Game 4’s 7.047 million) from its TNT NBA playoff lead-in than last year’s (24.4% from Golden State-Oklahoma City WCF Game 4’s 8.633 million).

  • Each of the three nights of NBA-TV’s live post-game coverage after each conference final game in the 2017 NBA Playoffs saw year-to-year declines: after Warriors-Spurs Game 4 of the Western Conference Final on May 22 96,000 viewers (-13 percent from 110,000 viewers for after Warriors-Thunder Game 4 May 24, 2016); after Celtics-Cavaliers Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final on May 23 62,000 viewers (-23 percent from 81,000 viewers for after Cavaliers-Raptots Game 4 May 23, 2016); and, after Cavaliers-Celtics Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final on May 25 60,000 viewers (-29 percent from 85,000 viewers for after Raptors-Cavaliers Game 5 May 25, 2016).

  • The season finale of “Street Fighter V” on ELEAGUE on TBS on May 26 delivered season-highs in viewers (335,000) and adults 18-49 (205,000). Not factoring the Apr. 28 celebrity showdown and the May 19 playoff preview, the “Street Fighter V” season averaged 213,000 viewers and 142,000 adults 18-49.

  • MLB Network’s live baseball game action (not counting look-in coverage during “MLB Tonight”) for the week of May 22-28 averaged 250,000 viewers from the 12 game showcase windows, less than one percent from the year-ago week (May 23-29, 2016: average of 251,000 viewers from 11 windows).

  • Golf Channel’s tournaments coverage from May 22-28:

    • PGA Tour: Dean & Deluca Invitational (May 25-28 afternoons; Golf Channel only): 467,000 viewers (-14 percent from May 26-29, 2016: 541,000 viewers)
    • LPGA Tour: Volvik Championship (May 25-28): 165,000 viewers (-8 percent from May 25-29, 2016: 180,000 viewers)
    • European Tour: BMW PGA Open (May 25-28 mornings): 77,000 viewers (-25 percent from May 26-29, 2016: 103,000 viewers)
    • Champions Tour: Senior PGA Championship (first two rounds May 25-26): 182,000 viewers (-10 percent from May 26-27, 2016: 203,000 viewers)
