If you’ve ever put your phone on a podium during a press conference, you’ve either had it make a noise that distracted from the proceedings and deeply embarrassed you or lived in constant feat that it would make a noise that would distract from the proceedings and deeply embarrass you.

Typically, the offending noise is a vibration from the cellphone you’re using to record, but sometimes even a handheld recorder can betray you, as happened Friday during a press conference for Leicester City coach Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri was an extremely good sport, laughing and pretending to reveal all his secrets into the dead recorder. He seemed absolutely delighted to have caught a writer in this mildly embarrassing situation.

Leicester, the defending Premier League champions, are off to a rough start this season, most recently drawing with mediocre Middlesborough, so it would be easy to forgive Ranieri for being snippy, but instead he was downright jovial.

Still, it’s best to check the battery on your recording before you put it up at the dais.
