The BBC is known for its serious style of reporting. However, on Thursday during an edition of SportsDay, Chris Mitchell signed off by pretending to scroll through a tablet with just his hands. Why? We explain below, but before we get there, it’s definitely a different look for “Auntie Beeb.”

CNET says Mitchell’s iPad sign off was apparently done on purpose:

That it was an inside joke appears substantiated by the fact that another BBC presenter, Simon McCoy, tried to pretend a packet of paper was an iPad just a couple of years ago.

Indeed, Mitchell replied to a Twittered suggestion that he had taken McCoy’s crown as King of the iPad Fakers: “Simon will always be King.”

Let us hope that this starts a series of iPad signoffs at the BBC.
