Gary Payton is one of the best players in Oregon State Beavers basketball history. His son, Gary Payton II, has followed in his footsteps at the school and is a junior starter for the Beavers.

On Thursday’s episode of Fox Sports Live, the elder Payton interviewed his son following Oregon State’s 55-47 win against Arizona State.

This is so sweet. Imagine how proud Payton must feel, seeing his son starting at his alma mater and playing well for the team in a nationally televised win.

I’ll give Payton some props too – the interview wasn’t just fluff, and he asked some good questions. Payton also wasn’t shy to coach up his son a bit and give some fatherly advice.

Situations like this will come up in broadcasting, simply because of the sheer amount of ex-players turned analysts with kids turned athletes. I think the Paytons handled it about as good as you could expect.
