Real American Freestyle’s first event will have one of the most famous wrestlers of all time, Kurt Angle, doing commentary for its first event.
The news was shared on Thursday.
“Real American Freestyle, the new, unscripted freestyle wrestling organization, today announced that the legendary Kurt Angle will serve as live event commentator, analyst, and partner for the burgeoning brand – joining Chael Sonnen and Bubba Jenkins for RAF01 on August 30 in Cleveland, OH at the Wolstein Center,” the company said in a press release, shared by Jeremy Lambert of Fightful.
In the same release, Angle also expressed his excitement for the new role.
“I grew up freestyle wrestling, and achieved the highest level of success in the sport,” he said. “I couldn’t be prouder to support athletes at all levels of their careers and partner with Real American Freestyle to make it happen. Chael and Bubba will bring a unique aspect to their analysis given their own backgrounds in combat sports, and I’m excited to join them for RAF01 to bring freestyle wrestling to audiences around the world.”
Angle was a two-time national champion wrestler (1990, 1992) at 275 pounds in college. He later won gold medals at 100 kilograms at the 1995 World Championships and 1996 Summer Olympics, which were both held in Atlanta. Following his amateur career, Angle went into professional wrestling, where he was again one of the most decorated stars ever. His professional wrestling achievements include being a four-time WWE Champion, one-time WWE Heavyweight Champion and a six-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
