The 2014 MLB Postseason kicks into high gear today, with four games taking place between the American and National League. You might want to watch the games on other devices aside from TV, and good news – this year, you can legally take care of that. Well, kind of.
The ALDS and ALCS will exclusively air on TBS, and can be legally streamed through TBS’s WatchTBS portal with an authenticated login. Most major providers, including AT&T, DirecTV, Dish, Verizon, and Xfinity are supported.
The NLDS, NLCS, and World Series will exclusively air on Fox and Fox Sports 1, but two NLDS games will air on MLB Network. The Fox games will be streamed on Fox Sports Go with an authenticated login. Dish and DirecTV aren’t supported providers, but AT&T, Bright House, Time Warner, and Xfinity are all good to go.
Well, what about those two games on MLB Network? Those two games are available to MLB.tv customers, but only those that also have an authenticated login with DirecTV, Optimum, Time Warner, Verizon, Bright House, or Buckeye. MLB.tv is streaming select playoff games this year – the entire ALDS and ALCS to subscribers of DirecTV, Optimum, Verizon, and Buckeye, and the two MLB Network games, NLCS games 1 and 6, and the entire World Series to DirecTV, Optimum, Time Warner, Verizon, Bright House, and Buckeye customers.
So what have we learned today? AT&T and Xfinity customers can legally stream all but two playoff games this year. DirecTV and Verizon customers can stream the entire AL playoffs, the World Series, and four NL playoff games. Time Warner and Bright House customers can stream the entire NL playoffs.
Yeah, it’s a little confusing, but this is better than the legal streaming plan we’ve had in the past, which was nothing.
