You know NBC has been waiting to make this announcement since Bob Costas had to step away from the Olympic Primetime anchor desk to recover from his bout with pink eye. It's been the subject of plenty of jokes including some from his own son.
Since Tuesday, Today co-host Matt Lauer and his former on-air partner Meredith Vieira have filled in admirably for Costas as he took his first days away from Olympic primetime since beginning a 157 consecutive night streak in 1992.
In fact, the NBC Sports public relations Twitter account was quick to note that Bob was preparing for his return today at the Olympic International Broadcast Center in Sochi.
So Bob is rested and ready to go. There will be no more focusing on his eye infection and he's ready to begin a whole new hosting streak for NBC.
