Tim McCarver promised us throughout his final season as the lead analyst for MLB on Fox that he would not be retiring, rather, just stepping away from his position in Fox's #1 broadcast booth. He is close to officially keeping that promise.
The longtime baseball analyst will call 30 St. Louis Cardinals games on Fox Sports Midwest in 2014 according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It will mark the first time McCarver's worked a regional schedule since calling Giants games in 2002. He spent 20 years supplementing his national work at ABC, CBS and Fox working regional telecasts with the Phillies, Mets and Yankees as well.
A union between McCarver and St. Louis will mark a homecoming, and put the Hall of Famer's career in baseball full circle. McCarver came through the St. Louis minor league system, and spent 12 years (1959-69, 1973-74) as a player on the Cardinals, and was a part of their World Series championships in 1964 and 1967.
Plus, who knows? Fox loves to cherry pick local FSN broadcasters for Fox regional telecasts, so baseball fans around the country are far from having seen the last of Tim McCarver.
